Common sense and government laws determine what may be stored in self storage facilities. Please read the following list to ensure that you, your belongings and your fellow customers are safe at all times. If you have any questions, our storage specialists will be happy to help.
As a rule, never store any of the following:
- Firearms, explosives, weapons or ammunition.
- Hazardous, toxic or radioactive goods, biological agents and flammable materials and liquids. These present a serious danger to the facility, its personnel, other customers and your goods.
- Gas canisters (e.g. for barbeques or recreational vehicle use) and aerosol cans.
- Pollutants, contaminated goods, asbestos or other materials of a potentially dangerous nature.
- Cash or securities, coins, precious stones, jewellery, antiques or fine art unless specifically agreed with us in writing, in advance of storing such goods in the unit.
- Illegal substances, illegal items or goods illegally obtained.
Birds, fish, animals or any other living creature. - Food or perishable goods. Dry foods (like rice, flour, pet food etc.).
- Scented candles or ornaments made of edible ingredients (e.g. popcorn strings, cookie or play-dough ornaments).
- Waste or other items which do or could emit any fumes, smell or odour.
The minimum rental period is one month and you can stay on a month to month basis for as long as you need the space. We ask you to provide us with at least 7 days’ notice prior to your monthly due date if you intend to vacate your unit. Once your unit is empty, you must inform the office staff so that a unit inspection can be conducted.
Never. We do not charge security deposit fees.
Unlike our competitors, our rates are for the full calendar month (up to 31 days), not for just four weeks (28 days). This provides you with an instant savings of approximately eight per cent per year. For example, if your commencement date was January 5th, then your rental payment would be due on the 5th day of each month.
No. As long as you pay your rent on time, there is no charge to access your belongings for any reason, as many times as you like, during our extended access hours.
Absolutely! We encourage you to drop by any of our stores and take a tour of our facilities. Our friendly staff will be happy to show you our facilities as well as the actual unit that you would be renting.
Our experienced staff will be happy to help you determine the right storage unit size for your particular needs. We will even show you different sizes to help you visualize the available space. If you realize that you need more or less space during or after a move, you can simply change to a new unit size, at the new rental rate, with no change fee.
No notice is necessary although it is wise to make a reservation so that you won’t be disappointed. In person and telephone reservations are free and can be modified or cancelled if your plans change. You can move in right away as long as we have an available unit for you.
Yes. We can reserve a unit for you for up to two weeks (subject to availability of that unit type and size). You can call us, visit us, send us an email or click here to Reserve Online!
Your rent is due monthly, starting on the date that you begin renting. For example, if your commencement date was January 5th, then your rental payment would be due on the 5th day of each month. You can pay with debit or credit card. You can also pay online using your computer or mobile device, or set-up automatic billing to your credit card. For qualified business clients, we may also accept post-dated cheques after the first month (some conditions apply).
Yes. All of our stores carry a wide selection of high-quality cardboard boxes, locks, plastic covers, bubble wrap, tape guns, markers and other helpful packing supplies.
Yes. Simply return any unused items in new condition, accompanied by the receipt, within seven days of your purchase.
No. The choice is yours. We carry high-quality locks specifically designed for the self storage industry; however, you may also use your own high-quality lock. Either way, you are the only keyholder.
Our staff cannot help you move your belongings into your locker, but they can provide you with valuable information on how to best organize the space. We also provide the free use of custom carts, dollies and pallet jacks (pallet jacks available during office hours). Our custom carts are designed to handle heavy loads, so fewer trips to your locker will be needed.
At Maple Leaf Self Storage, our industry-leading, state-of-the-art security systems and clean, ventilated units offer some of the best protection available in self storage today. All of our facilities are equipped with 24-hour digital video recording and monitored access systems that require a unique 6-digit code to gain entry. We also offer wide corridors, well-lit common areas and climate-controlled units for your more sensitive items. The features do vary by location, so please visit our Locations page to see a list of features offered by each storage centre.
Many of the storage facilities have power outlets located along the corridors that you may use when you are present at the facility. There are no power outlets inside individual units. You can use our power for temporary reasons such as vacuuming your unit or building shelves for your files. Please do not operate machinery, charge power tools or batteries, use space heaters or do anything that may potentially cause damage to the facility or endanger our customers. Please speak with our store managers about the specific requirements.
Prior to moving into Maple Leaf Self Storage, we will need you to complete the rental documents. On this day, please bring the following with you:
- Two pieces of government-issued identification (such as a passport, driver’s licence or birth certificate). At least one piece of identification must have a clear photograph.
- Your personal contact information, as well as the name, address and telephone number of one alternative contact who does not live with you.
- A keyed padlock. If you don’t have one, do not worry. We have a very good selection high quality, reasonably priced locks available for purchase in our store.
- Your first payment (we accept all major credit cards and debit cards).
- Business customers will also need to bring one piece of company identification and the name, address and telephone number of one alternative contact in your company.

Our rental agreements operate on a month-to-month basis and we require 7 days’ notice prior to your monthly due date of your intention to vacate your unit. Notice must be given in writing (by either fax, mail or email) and include your full name, the address of the location that you are currently renting at, your unit number, expected move-out date (usually the day before your monthly due date) and a phone number where we can reach you. Once your unit is empty, you must inform the office staff so that a unit inspection can be conducted and finalize any paperwork.
Absolutely! If you realize that you need more or less space after a move, you can simply change to a new unit size, at the new rental rate, with no change fee.
To protect the privacy of our tenants, we do not provide access codes by email or over the phone. If you ever forget your access code, please come to our office and we will provide it to you upon presentation of proper identification.
Absolutely! If you wish to pay your bill but do not have enough time to drop by our stores during regular office hours, please visit our website and begin this quick and simple process by clicking on the Pay Online button on the top right corner of the main screen. If you are an existing user, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. If you are a first time user, you must click on the “Create Account” button and complete the mandatory fields.
Yes, you may. However, this must be done in person and you will be asked to provide proper identification.
